Clarity In the Footnoted Footnotes

Imagine coming across these words in the financial records of a company:

Investments in and net advances to unconsolidated investees.

Does that seem like a clock that is running clockwise?  Is this the corrolary here or the reverse corrolary?

Does that sound like a punch or a sucker punch?

Is there subterfuge in that sentence?

What does this mean?  Maybe some context will help.  I’ll get to that real soon. Keep reading.

Peace.
